Delivering up to 24x longer fatigue life

Plasma shock peening restructures metal at surface and sublayer level through precision shockwave application. Extending fatigue life significantly, with a record-setting 24x achieved in industrial applications.

Metal life extension
for key components

Part fails at
the surface.

Fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, and wear all originate at the metal surface. Plasma Shock Peening (PSP) delivers deep compressive residual stress into that surface layer, increasing durability against cracks.

Fatigue failure

Cracks initiate at the surface under cyclic loading.

Compressive surface

Stress corrosion cracking

Surface tension plus a corrosive environment cracks parts.

Crack growth suppressed

Wear

High-load tooling wears fast and is replaced often.

Higher surface hardness

Downtime

Replacing worn or cracked tools halts production.

These are just a few of the applications. For many metals and critical components, Plasma Shock Peening extends part life: reducing the risk of fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, and wear.

A plasma discharge inside the PSP device generates a high pressure pulse that accelerates a solid impactor beyond 6000 m/s.

On impact, it produces controlled plastic deformation at the micron scale.

The resulting shockwave propagates into the bulk material, imparting compressive residual stress to a depth of 1+mm per application layer.

No optical access, no water confinement, no laser source needed.
PSP runs cold, carried by a standard industrial robot arm.
